Black Walnut Table
This beautiful table is made from Black Walnut, considered one of the most beautiful and durable woods in the world. Black Walnut trees are native to the eastern half of the United States and can easily grow to over 100 feet high and 5 feet in diameter.
The highly figured grain you see on one end was caused by the stress the tree underwent at the point where the trunk branched off into a limb. Other figuring can be seen at the protruding knob which was caused by the tree forming a protective layer of wood around the wound caused by a broken branch. More figuring can be seen where wood boring insects attacked the tree. Having so many stresses in such a short length of wood is highly unusual. Such figuring greatly enhances the value of the wood.
The table base was made from Hard Rock Maple and Sapele Mahogany with accents of American Hickory. It is 60 inches long, 12 inches wide and 31 inches high. Traditional joinery is used throughout. If you would like a similar table or one in a coffee table size, send me a message and we can work out the details.
