I have been working with wood since I was a kid. I started out by carving pieces of wood with a pen knife given to me by my grandfather. And I still have that knife to this day along with many of the vintage tools he used as a furniture maker. In school I always enrolled in wood shop where I learned how to operate all the tools and get used to the rhythm of the shop. It was the beginning of a lifelong passion.

I guess you could say that woodworking is in my blood. My father and uncles worked with wood. My grandfather and great uncles worked with wood. My great-grandfather worked with wood. Lumberjacks. Millwrights. Carpenters. Cabinet makers. Wooden boat builders. Furniture makers. They were all wood workers.

In my life I designed and built one home from the ground up and I remodeled two others. In each home I designed and built the cabinets and most of the wood furniture. I also made furniture for friends and family who always told me I should follow my passion and make a career out of it, but having a good steady job in another career made that choice difficult. But I finally decided to take the plunge and retire, and never once regretted it.

When designing furniture, I take a deep interest in each piece I make, otherwise it would probably turn out to be uninteresting when done. All the furniture I make is of the highest quality. I believe that when it comes to building any kind of quality product there is no compromise - you either do it or you don’t. It’s that simple. And I do not sacrifice quality for the sake of convenience. One way I do this by using traditional woodworking techniques and using time-honored traditional joinery without the use of screws or nails. The finish I use is the best available and is always hand rubbed to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.

The whole process of building a quality piece of furniture brings great satisfaction to me. And that same piece of furniture will bring great satisfaction to you as you look at it and use it over the years. As a closing thought, I take it as something very important and humbling that someone offers me good money in recognition of my work.
