Birds-Eye Maple Jewelry Chest
This chest is a work of art. It tells of the riches inside. The chest was custom made for a client who not only had a lot of jewelry but had very specific needs for all her different types of jewelry. She needed drawers that were deep enough to hold wide bracelets and long enough to hold pearl necklace boxes. Many of the drawers had to have partitions, others needed to be open. Some drawers needed flocking, others we left with the wood bottom. The top drawer needed to have a velvet lined tray with slots to hold all her rings. Once her wishes were known it was time to come up with a unique design. She wanted something special. Something no one else had. Once she saw this design she immediately said, “Yes, that’s it”. My inspiration came from a jewelry box I saw years ago at a wood arts store on Maui.
The sides that hold the hanging jewelry box are made from the very rare Quebracho wood. The top is made from a variety of woods including Valley Oak, Maple and Pacific Yew. The remainder of the box is made from Hard Rock Maple. The drawer fronts are made with Birds-Eye Maple which is very rare and only occurs in one-tenth of one percent of all Maple trees. Birds-Eye Maple cannot be cultured or reproduced like pearls; it can only occur naturally. As a whimsical feature I added a Manzanita branch on top. She loved it.
The chest is 19 inches wide, 10 inches deep and 14 inches high. I have several plans in the hopper to build similar jewelry cases. If you like this style or if you have something in particular you would love to have, send me a message and we can work on it together.
